The Center for Geospatial Analysis (CGA) is the comprehensive resource for William & Mary students, faculty, staff and community partners interested in the ever evolving field of geospatial technologies. Our mission is to provide access to geospatial technologies and the expertise to support learning and research using these powerful analytic mapping tools. The CGA fosters teaching, research, and public service as an integral part of education linked through programs designed to preserve, transmit and expand knowledge of geospatial technologies e.g. geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies (RS), global positioning systems (GPS), and small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS or drones).
Position Summary
The Center for Geospatial Analysis at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a two-year, non-tenure- track Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor position with emphasis on Geospatial Analysis, beginning August 10, 2023, for the 2023-2024 academic year. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a 3-3 teaching load.
We seek a colleague with a commitment to excellence in teaching with both undergraduateISI and graduate students in small class settings (1:14) and large class settings (1:80). Specific expertise integrating geospatial technologies with digital humanities; social justice; and/or medical & economic equity, is desired.
The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a 3-3 teaching load of existing courses for the Center for Geospatial Analysis. Courses will include sections of existing geospatial courses such as: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems course (multiple lab sections and/or large lecture). Additional courses, as needed, including but not limited to: Introduction to Geographic Information Science at a graduate level; Advanced Spatial Analysis and Coding; Introduction to Remote Sensing; Geovisualization and Cartographic Design; Special Topics in Geospatial Technology (e.g. digital humanities; social justice; medical & economic equity) etc, depending on the expertise of the successful applicant.
