The Program in Neuroscience and Behavior at Wesleyan University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Neuroscience and Behavior to begin September 1, 2023. Preference will be given to candidates with undergraduate teaching experience and expertise in neural and brain systems. The appointment carries a 3-2 teaching load. Specific courses will be negotiated at the time of hire, but example courses would be expected to cover areas such as neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, developmental neurobiology, motor systems and behavior, sensory neuroscience, or neuropharmacology and neurochemistry, and to have an emphasis on biological and experimental approaches in mammalian and/or non-mammalian systems. Course enrollments are most often limited to less than 20 students, and there are excellent facilities for laboratory-based teaching. Other responsibilities may include advising undergraduate majors.
The Neuroscience and Behavior Program at Wesleyan currently has 11 full-time faculty members, most with joint appointments in either Biology, Chemistry, or Psychology. Wesleyan faculty as a whole have a strong commitment to scholarship and to undergraduate teaching, and the University is especially committed to providing a variety of resources for visiting faculty for their professional development including support from the Center for Pedagogical Innovation and the Office for Faculty Career Development, as well as faculty mentorship.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment is required to be hired at the Assistant Professor level; appointment as an instructor is possible for a successful A.B.D. candidate.
