Trial Coordinator (Fixed Term)

PrimaryBreathe is a 5-year NIHR funded programme that aims to develop and test a brief primary care intervention for the management of chronic breathlessness. The programme is being conducted across five regions in England and has international links with a team in Melbourne, Australia.

Six individual studies will be undertaken within three workstreams; two cross- cutting themes focus on implementation and inclusivity. After a series of developmental studies, the programme centres on a cluster randomized trial recruiting over 600 patients from primary care, with associated qualitative process evaluation and implementation strategy co-production.

We seek to appoint a highly motivated Trial Coordinator to join our team. The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating clinical studies within the programme. The first is a single-arm feasibility study to test patient recruitment, follow-up and implementation in primary care. Second is the main cluster randomised trial, with internal pilot, to assess the clinical and cost-effectiveness of the intervention.

The Trial Coordinator's primary responsibilities will include supporting the production of study/trial documentation, obtaining and maintaining regulatory approvals and related governance, recruitment and set-up of sites, working collaboratively with the programme team on the operational set-up for the trials, day-to-day trial coordination and monitoring recruitment progress, and ensuring data entry/monitoring is conducted in line with standard operating procedures. The Trial Coordinator will line manage a Trial Administrator (expected to be in post 12-15mo later).

Essential skills needed to perform this role include strong organisation and project management skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to proactively problem solve. The successful applicant will have experience coordinating clinical research studies/trials and will have a Degree in an appropriate discipline or have equivalent qualifications or equivalent experience.

A research passport will be applied for once the post-holder commences in post.

The funding is available from 1 December 2023 to 31 May 2025 in the first instance. Subject to an interim check-point report of the programme by NIHR further funding may then be released until 31 August 2027.

The position is full-time but we will consider applications for part-time working of no less than 80% FTE per week.

Location - Department of Public Health and Primary Care, East Forvie Building, University Forvie Site, Robinson Way, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Cambridge CB2 0SR (approximately 2miles south of the city centre).
