Department: Traffic Reports to: Traffic Operations Supervisor

Summary : Under basic supervision, programs and installs traffic counting devices.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Inspects, maintains, programs, and installs traffic counting devices; collects and reports traffic volume data; follows all safety rules, regulations, and the Traffic Engineering division policies for traffic control on the job site; assists Signal Technicians and learns to perform traffic signal maintenance duties.
  • Maintains and operates Traffic Engineering division vehicles and equipment according to Department standards.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
  • Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED; AND one year of equipment maintenance experience is preferred.

    Knowledge of:

  • Tools and procedures used for installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Basic traffic control and safety procedures and regulations.
  • Skill in:

  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Following standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions, manuals, and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co- workers.
  • License and certification requirements: A Texas State Driver's License is required.

    Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; requires moderate physical efforts, and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. City approved safety shoes must be worn.
