Department: Traffic Reports to: Traffic Operations Supervisor

Summary : Under basic supervision, programs and installs traffic counting devices.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Inspects, maintains, programs, and installs traffic counting devices; collects and reports traffic volume data; follows all safety rules, regulations, and the Traffic Engineering division policies for traffic control on the job site; assists Signal Technicians and learns to perform traffic signal maintenance duties.

Maintains and operates Traffic Engineering division vehicles and equipment according to Department standards.

Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.

Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance at work.

Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED; AND one year of equipment maintenance experience is preferred.

Knowledge of:

Tools and procedures used for installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.

Basic traffic control and safety procedures and regulations.

Skill in:

Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.

Following standard operating and safety procedures.

Closely following verbal and written instructions, manuals, and procedures.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co- workers.

License and certification requirements: A Texas State Driver's License is required.

Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; requires moderate physical efforts, and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. City approved safety shoes must be worn.
