Tooling Services Shift Leader

The Role:

In this role, you will have responsibilities for the implementation and execution of the established business plan for Tooling Services and champion an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation.

What You'll Do:

The Tooling Service Shift Lead will hold supervisory responsibility for a small/medium group of employees involved in plant production as well as the TCM Tooling Engineering Team. This is a high visibility role working with internal GM teams, UAW hourly employees, Tooling Engineers, Tooling Vendors and TCM Leadership. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment. Participates in the training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members. Participates in the development of highly effective teams.
  • Leads Global Manufacturing Systems(GMS) processes and is responsible for maintaining a Level 4/5 BPD and supporting the ME Level 2 BPD.
  • Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues and is actively involved in problem solving activities.
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management. Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union.
  • Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues. Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.
  • Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods.
  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training). Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
  • Conduct regular Layered Audits and FSOT's
  • Process Kronos timekeeping, manage OT coverage for both daily and weekend hours, schedule and approve vacations
  • Involvement in launch activities for Tooling Services
  • Zoller troubleshooting.
  • Coach, teach, counsel and mentor TCM Group Leaders in these responsibilities.
  • Support Manufacturing to resolve tooling issues as needed.
  • Lead Tooling Sufficiency plan prioritization and implementation by directing the Tooling Engineering resources in order to achieve the 3000 account tooling budget.
  • Lead the daily tooling unscheduled review and prioritize follow up.

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelors Degree in a Technical Field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience in a tooling position
