DescriptionThe School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in piano interarts performance with a nine-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2023. PVFA and the Dance, Music, and Theatre Performance Section seek an individual with experience in Western Art Music, rock/pop, jazz, and/or non-Western music practices. An “arts powerhouse,” the newly created PVFA brings music, theater, dance, performance studies, painting, graphic design, sculpture, visual computing, and game design faculty together. Aiming at fully capitalizing on this vibrant atmosphere, the school seeks an individual with expertise in at least one of the following areas:
Besides teaching individual piano lessons at the undergraduate level, the position also entails the development of courses and performance-based projects in at least one of the areas listed above. PVFA is currently developing a unique music degree (expected start date of Fall 2024). For that reason, and unlike similar positions in most schools of music, the successful candidate will have ample opportunity to contribute at an early stage to the music program's design – and to the music scene at Texas A&M University more broadly. Candidates must have a well-developed research/creative works agenda that will inform and advance the field and gain visibility through peer-reviewed academic publications, juried creative works or both.
The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new school within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with 60 faculty and over 15 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next five years. The school was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the school with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. Applicants should consult the school's website to review our academic and research programs (https: // pvfa.tamu.edu/).
QualificationsApplicants must have a total of 10 years of professional performance experience and three years of university teaching experience. DMA or PhD required. Candidates should have a background in collaborative performing arts projects. A strong commitment to effective teaching, student recruitment, committee service, and professional development is expected. Candidates must hold a well-developed research/creative works agenda through peer-reviewed academic publications, juried creative works or both.

Review of applications will begin 30 days after posting and remain open until filled. Questions should be directed to Dr. David Wilborn, Music Program Director ([email protected]).
