The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Operations Manager to join the administration of the School of Jazz & Contemporary Music. The SJCM administration is responsible for managing the daily operations and academic work at the school. The Operations Manager oversees the scheduling of activities related to the BFA in Jazz & Contemporary Music and the MM Performer-Composer, including concerts, recitals, special events, and events with external partners. They also secure the proper technical staff and outside performers needed to accomplish the desired outcomes of these events. This key staff member also manages and distributes audio and video assets obtained from these events, helps to manage and expand external partnerships, and works with the Dean of the SJCM to place performances and recordings where the greater community can experience the work of the students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

The Operations Manager should have strong organizational and communication skills, be able to understand and construct a basic budget for events, and enjoy working in a fast paced environment filled with talented artists. The Operations Manager reports to the Dean of SJCM.

This is a part-time, onsite position with a duration of 52 weeks. The position may be renewed after 52 weeks pending institutional need and availability of funding. The Operations Manager's anticipated work schedule is 18 hours per week with nights and weekends required on occasion.

Responsibilities :

  • Identify, schedule, and supervise technical support staff for student and faculty concerts, recording sessions, recitals and special events. Resolve personnel issues related to the above events as they arise.
  • Determine personnel needs and schedule staff to support BFA in Jazz & Contemporary Music (JCM) and MM Performer-Composer (MMPC) ensemble concerts, recording sessions, recitals, and special events
  • Communicate and coordinate facility and equipment needs for the above to staff in production and academics
  • Manage audio and video assets captured from concerts, recording sessions, recitals, and special events
  • Contribute to discussions and decisions regarding student participation in outside partnerships, competitions, and festivals
  • Provide counsel, advice, support, and guidance to the dean on a range of strategic and operational matters, particularly with regard to outside partnerships
  • Build pathways to share student work and other assets such as audio recordings, video records, and album releases.

    $30/hour

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed undergraduate degree with an emphasis in jazz, popular music, and/or audio production, or equivalent professional experience
  • One year of experience at a higher education or professional organization that focuses on music and/or the recording arts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience organizing musical performances and recording sessions
  • Basic understanding of Digital Audio Workstations, and audio file management
  • Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School's suite of data systems including WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live.
  • Ability to adhere to university COVID-19 policy and requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Complete graduate degree coursework with an emphasis in jazz, popular music, and/or audio production, or equivalent professional experience
  • Three years of at a higher education or professional organization that focuses on music and/or the recording arts
  • Professional experience as a performing and recording artist, or as an audio production professional
