The Department of Journalism, Media and Communication is located at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gothenburg. Journalism is taught at undergraduate and graduate level. The majority of these students are on the bachelor's program in journalism, which comprises 180 credits. The department conducts research in journalism within the framework of several profile areas.

The Department of Journalism, Media and Communication is now looking for a temporary lecturer in the subject of journalism with a specialization in investigative journalism.

Form of employment: Temporary employment, until 30 June 2024 at the latest.

Duties

The tasks consist mainly of teaching, supervision and examination on the international Master in Investigative Journalism program, within the courses JU2600 Investigative Journalism Across borders and JU2604 Master's project in investigative journalism. Work assignments on other courses and in other areas of journalism may occur. The employment includes lectures, exercises, seminars and examination components and supervision as well as preparation and follow- up.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

To be eligible for appointment as a lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, the applicant is required to have demonstrated teaching expertise and to have completed higher education at second-cycle level at least, or have the corresponding competence or some other expertise that is of value in view of the subject area content of the post and the duties it will involve.

For employment as a university lecturer in investigative journalism, you must have a master's degree in journalism, preferably with a specialization in investigative journalism, and have knowledge of, and professional experience in, cross border collaborations in investigative journalism.

The ability to teach in English is a requirement.

Assessment criteria

For employment, you need to be able to demonstrate experience of educational activities on at least basic level, including lectures, seminars and supervision. Pedagogical skill will primarily be assessed in relation to the area specified in the delimitation of the work tasks.

When deciding on employment, we will attach particular importance to professional and subject-related skills and general suitability regarding the content of the advertised position. Knowledge of, and professional experience in, project management and coordination of projects and networks in investigative journalism is an advantage. Knowledge and professional experience of working in digital environments, with an emphasis on digital security and open source platforms, is desirable.

Particular attention will be paid to the personal qualities required to initiate and sustain co-operations, both internally and externally.

According to the employment regulations for teachers at the University of Gothenburg with the local application of the Faculty of Social Sciences (GU 2019/843), the applicant shall be selected who, after an overall assessment of skills and development potential, is deemed to have the best conditions for carrying out the tasks included in the employment.

The position is temporary with the extent of 25%, until 30 June 2024 at the latest, and is located at the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication at the University of Gothenburg. The time may be extended.
