  • About the position

    This position falls within the Facilities and Technical Services (FTS) team in Science, primarily supporting the Anatomy and Physiology teaching laboratories for the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment (SABE). The successful candidate will have responsibility for the provision of a range of technical services and advice to ensure the effective delivery and maintenance of the capability and operation of these teaching laboratories, working closely with the laboratory teaching team.

    This role works closely with a number of stakeholders including the academic teaching, Infrastructure and Operations and the Health Safety and Environment teams. It also contributes to shared services, as provided by the FTS team, consistent with service expectations as determined by either the Technical Coordinator or the Senior Coordinator of Facilities and Technical Services (Science).

    Skills and Experience

    To be considered for this position, you will have

  • An understanding of regulatory requirements around the Human Tissue Act.
  • Completion of a degree with subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of scientific teaching and/or research equipment/facilities, with respect to operations, maintenance and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated capacity to organise work effectively and efficiently, set priorities and deliver outputs in a timely manner.
  • Some responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a small and discrete work unit, including allocating and prioritising work (i.e. resource management), meeting service standards and assisting with the monitoring or review of systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and take responsibility for outcomes (accountable).
  • Demonstrated well-developed analytical and technical problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated customer service focus and solution orientated approach.
  • Excellent understanding and demonstrated experience in customer service including high level interpersonal skills and the ability to respond to people positively, confidently and with respect.
  • High level proficiency in computer software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and the use of the internet as a research tool.
  • Well-developed understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures.
  • Desirable

  • Experience in working in a Higher Education teaching laboratory setting and/or especially in the field of Anatomy and the handling of human specimens.
  • First Aid Level 2 qualification
