Overview

As a Sr. Power Electronics Engineer, you will be working on advanced technologies that would fit into Canoo's innovative Powertrain Propulsion and Electronic systems. The successful candidate will be working on a wide range of products including, but not limited to, Traction inverters, On Board Chargers (OBC), DC-DC converters, Battery Management Systems (BMS), as well as HV system architecture.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (80s of the Position)

  • Analytical and experimental verification of advanced technologies for Powertrain Propulsion and Electronics
  • Work with cross functional teams, including mechanical, thermal, software, and vehicle integration, to develop advanced Power Electronic systems
  • Perform electrical circuit simulations, schematic and PCB layout design, WCA, and DFMEA study on traction inverters, OBCs, DC-DC converters, and BMS
  • Bench testing and vehicle testing of Power Electronic systems
  • Provide innovative Interim Corrective Action (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Action (PCA) for issues related to Powertrain Propulsion and Electronics
  • Benchmarking competitors' powertrain solutions
  • Evaluate Power Electronics system architectures and topologies considering various performance metrics including efficiency, cost, size, manufacturability, etc.

    Qualifications

    Required Experience:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, MSc preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing high Power Electronic systems
  • Knowledge of EV system architecture with a detailed understanding of major HV powertrain components
  • Hands on experience with Power Electronics systems and lab tools
  • Excellent understanding of Power Electronics converters, including topologies, magnetic design, semiconductor technologies, Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) challenges and solutions, technology trade-offs, etc.
  • Passionate about solving complex HV system technical issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, showing a high level of respect to colleagues, customers, and suppliers
  • Preferred Experience:

  • 5-10 years of automotive industry experience
  • Knowledge of major automotive standards including SAE, ISO 26262, AQG324, etc.
  • Knowledge of Electric Motors and Motor controls is a plus

    Experience with start-up environment in EV industry

    Travel Requirements:

  • Occasionally, up to 20% of the time
