The Office of Admission at Wesleyan University serves as the hub of activity and point of first contact for the University for thousands of prospective students and families. The admissions team is responsible for generating, processing and reviewing more than 15,000 first-year and transfer applications and hosts over 15,000 individual visitors on campus annually. In addition, we promote the university virtually and host admission events all over the world.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admission, the Senior Assistant Dean of Admission – Marketing & Communications Coordinator is a key member of the admission office team.

The Sr. Assistant Dean will serve as the office liaison to University Communications ensuring brand compliance and message cohesion, leveraging all phases of the enrollment funnel. They will work closely with senior leadership to refine existing, and develop new, strategic communication plans aimed at prospective undergraduate students of varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

The position will also be involved in all components of the admission program including recruitment travel, public speaking, and evaluation of applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the admission conduit for the Office of University Communications; revise and create admission and financial aid messages and collateral (electronic & print) directly targeting constituents and specialized populations.
  • Develop and produce social media messages and campaigns; serve as a member of the admissions/financial aid Slate (CRM) team creating communications templates and managing the creation, delivery, and assessment of various communication campaigns.
  • Manage an admission region; develop and implement strategic recruitment initiatives intending to expand multicultural and diversity outreach. Build and maintain relationships with school counselors and Community Based Organizations.
  • Participate in the selection of first-year and transfer candidates.
  • Travel up to 5 weeks per year, including traditional recruitment travel and professional meetings representing the university.
  • Supervise staff, students, and manage strategic projects associated with marketing and communications.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director and/or Dean of Admission and Financial Aid.
  • This position is required to work on campus. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify.)

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience within a selective admission setting or working in marketing /communications or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Experience developing print and electronic communications.

    Experience with social media campaigns.

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    A Demonstrated sensitivity to and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds

    Ability to connect with students and co-workers from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.

    An ability to work independently on time-sensitive projects effectively, and simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

    Experience managing others in a team or project-based environment.

    Proven ability to leverage creativity, exercise initiative, set priorities, and work both independently and collaboratively.

    Demonstrated data-driven decision-making and experience with database management and CRMs. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others on a team.

    Demonstrated ability to efficiently read, analytically process, and effectively summarize large volumes of written content and sustain this pace over multiple months.

    Valid driver's license, ability to travel 5 weeks during the year, and drive for extended periods of time in various traffic conditions.

    Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills .

    Familiarity with Slate.

    Fluency in an additional language.
