Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite up to 3 times per week .

About the Launch and Deploy team at General Motors: The Launch and Deploy Team is a DevOps team that is responsible for the execution of all application releases in the manufacturing environment, including installation of new instances and IT required configuration. This includes working with the business to provide all configuration needed to support new vehicle and GPS launches.

About the Software Deployment Manager Role:

The Software Deployment Manager is responsible for the success of the release/deploy and launch of their assigned system. Their work includes maintaining a 4 year plan, making the necessary updates in Morpheus and PPM to support this plan, directing a group of resources with their day to day tasks as they deploy and update software applications used globally in GM's manufacturing plants that build the next generation of transportation. The Manager will be expected to fully understand the technical details associated to their system, and come up with improvements and suggestions for automation.

This person will need to work closely with the dev team to understand any new releases, to provide feedback on code related issues encountered, including entering bugs and features in TFS, and to ensure T2D is completed. This role will need to work closely with the business to understand the business needs at each site. The Manager will need to work closely with Business Facing to understand what is standard and common and what the overall direction is. The Manager will need to work closely with AOS to ensure that our system is transitioned to ops after we complete a deploy/release and also based on the launch T2O milestone schedule. This person will also need to work with his team of people and train them as needed in order for the team to perform deployment activities successfully. Deployment activities will include gathering high-level requirements from manufacturing plant(s), installing and configuring virtual servers, updating existing software installations and/or configuring applications to the specific needs for the plant, SAT, UAT, and troubleshooting issues that may arise relating to either the new code or plant configuration, documentation, T2O, vulnerability reduction and support. This role will contribute to security lifecycle maintenance by ensuring that all third-party applications and operating systems are compliant with the GM IT statement of technical direction. The Lead will be responsible for resolving issues escalated by the team and escalate any issues to upper management as needed.

Other responsibilities include

  • Identify repeatable deployment actions for automation via scripting or CI/CD pipelines

  • Have knowledge of software monitoring tools for uptime and performance

  • Hold themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Learn new technical concepts and practices quickly and apply them across multiple types of applications and software.

  • Prospective Manager must possess a high degree of business insight, creativity, decision making skills, a drive for results, the ability to negotiate, the ability to develop strong peer relationships, and a strong technical learning capability and focus.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and/OR recent, relevant work experience

  • This role MAY require you to travel to physical plant locations for workshop or deployment activities.

  • This role MAY require you to work during manufacturing plant downtime (weekends, second shift, third shift, holidays).

  • +10 years of IT experience

  • Proven experience troubleshooting IT issues

  • Proven experience in learning new technical concepts and practices

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions

  • Creative problem-solving skills to issues

  • Strong teamwork focus with the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams

  • Demonstrated Experience from at least one area:

  • Coding: C#/VC++/MFC /Java / Python /ASP.NET/VB.NET/

  • Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, PostgreSQL, or other databases

  • Web Application Servers: WebSphere, WebLogic, TomCat, IIS

  • Infrastructure: Server Provisioning, Virtual Machines, Networking,

  • OS: Linux, UNIX, Windows Server, Cloud technology

  • Tools: Team Foundation Server (Azure Dev Ops), IT Service Manager, PowerBI, Jenkins, Chef, GitHub, Fortify, SonarLint/SonarQube, Artifactory

  • Experience in IT Enterprise Security concepts and implementation

  • Resource management

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience in monitoring systems.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing tools and technologies (e.g., SCADA, Proficy, Cimplicity, etc.)

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems

  • Experience using CIMPLICITY software

  • Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLC) platform is a benefit

  • Experience in application containerization

  • Experience in IT Enterprise Security concepts and implementation

  • Have knowledge of configuring programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
