Senior Teaching Associate in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (Part Time,

Fixed Term)

The UKRI CDT in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NanoDTC) is a world leading Centre for Doctoral Training based at the University of Cambridge, across the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Materials, Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The centre has been running since 2009, and its current funding extends to 2028.

The Centre hosts a programme for training the next generation of leaders in nanoscience in academia, industry and science-led start-ups. The centre has around 50 MRes+PhD students at any one time, and relies upon a network of more than 150 PIs and Teaching Associates for the delivery of a diverse programme in nanoscience which balances depth and breadth of knowledge and training.

The role holder will provide high level of teaching on the CDT programme and would develop new teaching content, including digital graphics and online- based course material, for continued training of CDT students in experimental and data analysis techniques. This will include use of equipment and facilities based in the new National Facility for Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory. The role holder will also set up arrangements for these training materials to be implemented for the wider community, including for user training for research facilities such as the Cavendish National Facility and other nano related equipment facilities in Cambridge. This will include effective dissemination. The role holder is also expected to support the broader activity of the CDT's educational environment, including organising and leading seminars and skills development activities. The role holder is also expected to lead the coordination and delivery of other programmes such as the Nano Initiatives and the Nano Associates programmes.

The successful candidate will have advanced skills and knowledge in working with nanoscience related areas and in being able to converse with a talented, high-calibre cadre of interdisciplinary PhD students across a diverse range of topics covered within the NanoDTC programme, along with teaching experience in relevant topics at advanced graduate level. Experience of working with a wide range of experimental and data analysis techniques in nanoscience is essential, and so is an experience and interest in developing high quality digital / graphics-based teaching and learning materials.

You will have excellent organisational and management skills, a high degree of familiarity with technological and organisational tools for effective management, and willingness to embrace new technologies as they evolve. You will also have excellent communication skills, and will enjoy being part of a diverse and active community of students, academics and team members.

A new Academic Career pathway scheme for Teaching and Scholarship staff has been developed to recognise and reward outstanding contributions and celebrate academic achievement through promotion and/or pay progression. This post falls within this career pathway scheme.

Applicants are invited to visit the centre's website https: // www. nanodtc.cam.ac.uk to get a sense of the range of its activities.

Applicants should submit a cover letter and a CV. Included in the CV should be a link (OneDrive, Dropbox or similar) to a sample of a digital graphics image or video which you have created, explaining something relevant to Nanoscience. If you are unable to provide a link, please email your material to Professor Jain at the email address below.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to give a teaching presentation and a formal interview.
