The above part-time (0.8 FTE) post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis until 3 June 2024, to cover maternity leave.
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.
Summary of the role
This is an exciting opportunity for those who are dedicated to the promotion of good practice in the management and conduct of health and social care research in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements and the university's internal research governance processes relating to sponsorship. We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our team, who has experience of supporting and contributing to the ongoing enhancement of processes and systems for the research governance of health and social care research in line with the Health Research Authority expectations.
Working in a small team of Research Governance, Ethics and Compliance subject specialists, the post holder will provide guidance to university researchers and colleagues of all levels on the conduct and requirements of clinical studies and trials within the context of the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and institutional policies for assuring high quality research.
The Senior Research Governance Officer will be responsible for supporting researchers in setting up projects, the oversight of ongoing studies, and for ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in full respect of the standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Together with others in the team, they will be responsible for the governance of sponsorship by providing expert support for researchers on obtaining the appropriate authorisations and will provide an effective link between external stakeholders (principally NHS partners), research teams and relevant University professional services staff.

About you
We are looking for a diligent individual who has experience of working in a research governance and sponsorship environment. You will enjoy supporting researchers to comply with relevant regulatory approvals for clinical research and participating in the assessment of new clinical trials (including CTIMP and Medical Device trials), health and social care research applications for HRA and NHS REC approval and for ongoing study amendments. You will be a committed team player with an ability to provide high levels of service to researchers of all levels and be keen to contribute to service improvement activities.
