  • About This Opportunity

    This position leads the strategic management of student and academic administration activities within the Business School. The Senior Manager assists the School Manager and Director of Teaching and Learning to develop and implement strategic initiatives for the portfolio and advises on resourcing as required. The Senior Manager has effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the School, the Faculty of Business Economics and Law and the University; develops strategic business development cases and reports; and manages a large high performing team to deliver high quality student and academic services.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide high-level strategic advice and support to senior staff on all matters pertaining to student and academic administration operations, financial management and business processes.
  • Assist the School Manager and Head of School to develop strategy; define, operationalise and achieve School priorities; and establish measures of success.
  • Lead and manage staff within the student and academic administration team in accordance with ‘Manager' level of UQ's Leadership framework.
  • Manage the School's academic workload processes in collaboration with the Deputy Heads of School.
  • Build and maintain on-going relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through consultation and engagement as required, in order to establish and deliver strategic priorities, objectives and programs/projects.
  • Manage high-level planning, governance, budgeting, resource management and workforce planning processes.
  • Develop and implement business improvement initiatives focused on providing high quality and streamlined services.
  • Lead, demonstrate and promote compliance with UQ policies and procedures, governance protocols, and risk management frameworks, as well as any legislative requirements.
  • Act as Deputy to the School Manager as required.
  • This is a full-time continuing position.

    At HEW level 9, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $123,496.74 - $130,685.52 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $144,491.19 - $152,902.06 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

    About You

    Essential

  • Postgraduate qualifications in business, business administration or another relevant discipline; and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and proven management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Substantial knowledge of and experience with developing innovative projects and processes, with significant experience in project management, financial management and human resource management.
  • The ability to deliver outcomes under pressure and working to constant concurrent deadlines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to build both internal and external relationships and networks with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, review and continuous improvement of projects, business systems, procedures and processes to deliver operational efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly to change and operate effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a collaborative, client-focused team.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a high-performing team of business and/or administrative professionals in role of similar size and scope.

  • Extensive experience in the area of academic and student administration in a higher education setting.
