The new Centre for Skin Research will be aligned with the theme of Immunology, Haematology and Infection (IHI), that encompasses fundamental studies on immunology, haematology, microbiology and parasitology through to first-in- human and other early phase clinical research.
Role
The Senior Lecturer role encompasses pioneering fresh research approaches in the field of cutaneous pathology. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director to identify, adapt, develop, and utilize innovative research methodologies to advance the understanding of skin pathology. Producing high- impact research and publishing in quality journals is a key function, whether conducted independently or in collaboration with others. Furthermore, the role requires the conception, direction, and development of robust research projects in skin pathology, with an objective to secure external research funding.
An integral part of this position is taking the lead in education. The candidate will be accountable for overseeing the development and promotion of inventive teaching and learning methodologies, ensuring they captivate students, boost understanding, and foster enthusiasm. The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and delivery of a variety of academic modules centered around skin pathology, ensuring adherence to the department and university's quality standards and regulations.
In addition to these academic and research responsibilities, the role necessitates undertaking an array of administrative and managerial duties effectively.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with a PhD in Biological Sciences or an equivalent field, coupled with relevant academic, professional, and teaching qualifications. The ideal candidate will have established an outstanding reputation in research on both national and international scales. Expertise in skin biology, physiology, or pathology, with a well-established reputation in skin research areas, is crucial. This knowledge should enable the candidate to design and develop comprehensive teaching programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate levels, enriching the Skin Research Centre's (SRC) research strategy and goals.
Essential skills include academic leadership, team management, effective motivation of staff, and highly developed oral and written communication. The ability to supervise research students, secure research funding, and present impactful research at conferences is crucial. Experience wise, we value a proven track record in high-quality research, teaching, and learning in Higher Education, particularly success in attracting research funding.
