  • This is an opportunity to join the leadership team in the Department of Architecture and Landscape in the Kingston School of Art. Our courses are very focused on the culture and skills that it takes to make well considered landscapes and buildings and we have a diverse and energetic team of part time practitioners / academics who deliver incredible teaching in studio and beyond. We are looking for someone who is happy to teach, manage and assist the Department Management Group (DMG), (and undertake their own research) to join our team at full time Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor level as part of a career trajectory that is developing towards senior academic leadership in learning and teaching. The successful candidate will be working closely with the Head of Department and DMG to deliver strategy, mentor and support newer / younger members of the team, and oversee QAE processes. This will be a chance to work with empathy, care and efficiency as part of a collegiate and passionate team.

    The Person

    This is a senior leadership role in learning and teaching within the Department of Architecture and Landscape as a highly experienced academic with line management, quality assurance, and course development experience to contribute to the University's objective of securing an outstanding reputation for learning and teaching, innovation and integrated academic practice.

    The successful candidate will work directly with the Head of Department and the DMG to enhance all aspects of learning and teaching provision across the different courses to the benefit of a diverse range of students. They will support the team in teaching, assessment and feedback, and progression of all students. The successful candidate will have a history of innovative pedagogical practices that they will be able to bring into the role to enhance different areas within the department. We are also keen to appoint someone with a strong national and/or international research profile.

    The title of Senior Lecturer normally reflects expertise and external networks with a developing national reputation in the area of activity (learning and teaching for the purpose of this role).

    The title of Associate Professor normally reflects an established national reputation, and the basis for an international reputation, in at least one area of activity (mainly learning and teaching for the purpose of this role) and a significant impact on the institution.

    By the end of the probation period, you must have achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition (if this has not already been obtained). For those new to teaching, this will be through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching and for those experienced in teaching, through our Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework.

    Further information

    This is a full-time, permanent position with a starting salary of £47,004 per annum for a Senior Lecturer & £57,011 for a Associate Professor.

    Founded in 1899, Kingston University London began its operations with courses specialising in chemistry, electric wiring, building construction, nursing, dressmaking and clay modelling. In 1926, it was recognised as a technical college by the Board of Education. In 1992, the university was renamed as Kingston University from Kingston Polytechnic.
    The institution has campuses in and around Kingston, United Kingdom. It also has a campus in Friars Avenue, London, and another campus at Crammer Terrace, London. Its Penrhyn Road campus, Kingston Hill campus, Kingston School of Art at Knight's Park and Roehampton Vale campus are linked together by the University's free inter-site bus service.

The Kingdom School of Art comprises world-class facilities, such as 3D materials workshop, digital media workshop, hackSpace, moving image workshop, photography workshop and printmaking studios. The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing maintains various facilities, such as Scene of the Crime House, Learjet Lab and Centre for Augmented and Virtual Reality environments.

In the field of entertainment and film, the alumni of the university include actor Ben Barnes, American model, actress and journalist Angie Bowie, actress Jessie Cave, Hong Kong actor Sam Chan. In the field of arts, the alumni include artist and illustrator Eileen Aldridge, Turner Prize nominee artist Fiona Banner, photographer Richard Bryant, product designer James Irvine, product designer Jasper Morrison, and sculptor David Nash. In the field of fashion, the alumni of the university include Harper's Bazaar editor in chief and journalist Glenda Bailey, and fashion designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista. In the field of architecture, there are David Chipperfield and Alexander Yusuf.
