Salary: UH6 £31,396pa to £33,966pa with potential to progress to £37,099pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield alongside working from home

The Careers and Employment Service are seeking a proactive candidate to join our innovative Career Operations and Placements Team, to provide tailored support to students and employers. We are a friendly, positive team focused on student outcomes and creating opportunities for all. We offer flexible work locations across our two campuses including within our Careers Studio that is designed to provide an informal and supportive student environment. The successful candidate will work across the university SBUs and in co-creation with our students to ensure a coordinated and efficient service is provided to students and academic schools in relation to placement management and approvals.

This is a key role to assist the Careers Operations & Placements Manager in the management of placement activity and in contributing to the development and provision of professional careers, placements and work experience information and advice. The post also includes the line management of a placement related team.

Main duties and responsibilities

In this role the Senior Careers and Placements Officer will deal proactively with current students to encourage take up of placements and support with all aspects of the administrative placement process. As a senior member of the placements team, the role includes assisting with more complex placement queries supporting the Careers and Employment team and the wider UH community, regularly reviewing processes, making recommendations, and implementing improvements.

The successful candidate will keep up to date with relevant legislation and processes including UKVI regulations and UH specific placement requirements and contribute to activity reporting to senior managers. A range of IT systems including Handshake, Abintegro and Dynamics will be used in the role.

The role includes line management of a placement team using appraisals, action plans, team and individual meetings along with all aspects of training relating to placement activity.

Skills and experience required

Strong communication skills are vital in this role as the Senior Careers and Placements Officer will deal with a wide range of customers and both internal and external key stakeholders.

A good level of IT skills are a requirement including Windows, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to learn new systems for reporting activity. As this role works within a busy environment to meet important deadlines, the ability to deal with conflicting priorities and to work under pressure with minimum supervision. A methodical approach and attention to detail is important when dealing with complex placement processes.

Formerly recognized as Hatfield Technical College, University of Hertfordshire is a public university which was established in the year 1952. The university has developed many notable alumni that are doing successfully in their fields. Tony Banham is the Founder of Hong Kong War Diary Project. Helen Lederer is a famous actress and comedian. Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Darell Leikin graduated from the University of Hertfordshire. Chris Gubbey is Auto Executive for General Motors. Upen Patel is an acclaimed film actor and a model. BBC presenter, Kate Bellingham is a renowned alumnus of this university. In addition, it has also produced many eminent sports personalities such as Ajaz Akhtar, who is a British cricketer and Noah Cato, who is a rugby union player.
