The position will support the Controller and Assistant Controller with special projects requiring a high level of accounting experience and knowledge. The position will perform complex and varied financial operations in accordance with established policies and practices including preparation, examination, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation, and verification of financial records. The position will independently research, analyze, and implement accounting pronouncements and other best practices that impact financial processes. The position will be integral in implementing business process improvements and departmental changes.
Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities
Comprehensive knowledge in using automated financial systems and MS Excel, particularly in report writing and analysis. Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external senior officials as well as internal and external customers with effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles and methods to a variety of complex fiscal needs. Demonstrated ability to assemble, analyze, reconcile, and research complex financial data and develop a variety of fiscal reports. Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and interpret administrative policies and procedures.

Level and type of experience
Considerable experience in accounting. Considerable experience with review of financial transactions as well as with complex financial data reporting and analysis. Considerable experience with accounting systems, with PC-based word processing and spreadsheet software such as MS Word and MS Excel, and with report writing.
Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
Experience in Higher Education or other government accounting practices Advance MS Excel skills to include pivot tables, lookup functions, and advanced formulas and functions. Current active CPA preferred. Bachelor's degree in accounting or a bachelors in a related field with relevant accounting experience preferred.
