Campus Location Duluth Job Title Resident Director, Part-Time Job Group Staff Job Summary

The Resident Director (RD) position provides support and leadership for building positive, vibrant communities on campus. The RD provides training and guidance to Residential Life student staff, is regularly present at campus events, and is available for informal discussion with students. The primary duty of the RD is to serve as an on-call crisis response team member in collaboration with Residential Life staff. Through a rotating on-call schedule, the RD responds with student staff, Campus Safety and Security, and others to student behavioral concerns or to facilities issues. The RD provides a professional staff evaluation of the scene, helps ensure student safety, de- escalates if necessary, and serves as a coordination point for mobilization of other staff teams. Common issues the RD might respond to include (but are not limited to): noise complaints, underage or excessive alcohol consumption, illegal drug use, fire alarms, facilities issues (such as flooding, leaking pipes, broken windows or doors, malfunctioning smoke detectors), and mental health concerns. The RD operates within the student-centered and growth- oriented (not punitive) philosophy of Residential Life.

  • Serve as a member of the Residential Life Professional Staff On Call team
  • Serve as a student mentor
  • Engaging RAs in 1:1s as appropriate
  • Attend regular staff meetings for the professional staff team and the student staff team
  • Engage in appropriate relationships with students on campus as determined through expectations shared in professional staff training.
  • Demonstrates commitment to inclusive excellence as an expression of the Benedictine Values of St. Scholastica
  • Crisis Management & Response
  • Work directly with Resident Advisors and Campus Safety and Security as needed when on call
  • Provide direct crisis response when on call
  • Complete appropriate reports through Residential Life systems
  • Complete and read duty logs
  • Maintain appropriate amount of presence with staff and residents to build community
  • Required Qualifications

  • Experience in responding to mental health or crisis situations
  • Willingness to understand and support the mission and goals of Residential Life
  • Strong relationship building skills working with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Experience working directly with traditional and non-traditional college students
  • Ability to respond to crises with a calm, professional demeanor
  • Must live in College provided housing at the Duluth Main Campus

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in residential life or student affairs at any level (including undergraduate)
  • Experience working with college students from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Qualified full-time The College of St. Scholastica salaried faculty or staff members
  • Qualified part-time salaried regular faculty or staff members
  • Qualified graduated students that do not hold another position at the College that is hourly
