We are recruiting a temporary Research Laboratory Manager who can manage the main laboratory and oversee the satellite labs. You will need to be able to contribute to research and service planning as well as having experience of writing research protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to succeed in this role.

About the job:

The laboratory is currently managing two service-based projects. The Rare Disease RNA Phenotyping project is an extension of the NIHR BioResource Rare Disease WGS project using tissue specific bulk RNA seq, 10X and proteomics technologies to provide clinical benefit through diagnosis or development of new treatments and to enrich the current dataset across multiple rare diseases. The Long Read Sequencing project will provide Oxford Nanopore technology sequencing across many of the BioResource themes supporting fundamental genetic research through provision of a UK population based long read seq resource and also more focused research in the Rare Disease, Dementia and Mental Health themes.

Reporting to the Rare Disease RNA Phenotyping Project Manager, the role holder will manage the setup and overall running of the main laboratory in Cambridge. This includes sample processing, ordering, health and safety, and the line management of the laboratory technicians.

  • Specialised laboratory techniques and equipment knowledge
  • Laboratory and line management experience
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to organise, plan and prioritise workload across the team

    Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
