    The Opportunity

    The School of Chemical and Biological Engineering invites applications for the position of Level A Research Fellow, offering a unique opportunity to be part of our interdisciplinary team at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science and Technology (ARC COE-CSI).

    As the successful candidate you will work with an interdisciplinary Monash team of the ARC COE-CSI to explore new biocatalysis systems with industrial applications in the green energy and green chemistry sectors. This Centre is focused on replacing traditional catalysts with nano-carbon alternatives, and at Monash, we will be adding value to these systems by designing, integrating and evaluating enzymes into nanocarbon electrodes to produce energy and/or green chemicals. Over the 7-year life of the Centre, we will work both on fundamental aspects of these biocatalyst systems, and also work towards applications in the green energy/chemistry area.

    The candidate will be a key member of the Monash team (interdisciplinary expertise in chemical engineering, electrochemistry, protein design/engineering), undertaking their own research program, but will also collaborate with experts across the Centre, co-supervise PhD students, and have opportunities to take part in and lead outreach and professional development activities that the Centre provides. The position requires a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline or a closely related field, along with demonstrated experience in producing, characterising, engineering and testing enzymes, including bioelectrochemical analysis. Furthermore, the candidate will be collaborating closely with experts in electrochemistry, protein science/engineering, AI-guided protein or nanomaterial design, nanocarbons and industrial biocatalysis; we encourage candidates who have interests in developing their expertise in one or more of these areas to apply, although demonstrated experience is not required.
