• Salary Package: HEW Level 5 ($44.23 - $50.28 per hour) plus 25% casual loading • Appointment Type: Casual (approximately 60 hours), to commence immediately and end November 2023 • Location: Macquarie University (North Ryde), remote working possible (in Sydney/NSW preferred)

THE ROLE

Macquarie University Law School researchers, Prof Sarah Sorial and Dr Shireen Morris are seeking a casual research assistant for an exciting project in constitutional law and the implied freedom of political communication. Key responsibilities will include retrieving information contained in High Court judgments about the implied freedom and sourcing secondary literature on this and related topics, analysing parts of the judgments and writing up a research brief.

Selection Criteria:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy

  • Competence in AGLC footnoting

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience

  • Advanced organisational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team to progress an ambitious and complex project.
