Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. About Mount Royal Conservatory

Mount Royal University's (MRU) Conservatory has played a pivotal role in Calgary's performing arts scene since 1911, enabling people of all ages and abilities to take part in the performing arts. No other performing arts organization has a comparable history or serves as large and diverse a community, from early childhood education through all stages of life. As an educational leader and innovator, it is the largest institution of its kind in Canada; the Conservatory is unique in the breadth and scope of its programming.

About the Role

The Mount Royal Conservatory wishes to further expand how we use music and speech arts engagement to support personal development, health, and wellbeing across the lifespan. The Research Assistant will play a key part in helping us develop a deeper understanding of relevant needs and opportunities within Calgary and the role that the Conservatory can play in supporting these. This will be achieved through reviewing relevant Arts for Health centres throughout Canada, the US, and overseas as well as engaging with local Arts for Health service users and providers. The research conducted by the Research Assistant will be used to inform new programming, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives.

This is a 12-month part-time position, the successful candidate will be expected to work 14 hours per week.

Accountabilities/Duties:

Conduct a comprehensive review of the structure, staffing, and activities of relevant Arts for Health centres throughout Canada, the US, and oversees to gain insight into current centre models;

Engage with Calgary and area Arts for Health service providers to develop an understanding of the challenges, needs, and opportunities they experience in delivering their work. This could involve interviews, focus groups, and surveys;

Engage with Arts for Health service users to understand their experiences accessing Arts for Health activities. This could involve interviews, focus groups, and surveys;

Engage other MRU stakeholders, departments, schools, and Faculties to identify potential Arts for Health collaborative opportunities;

Collect and manage all data gathered, following appropriate ethical and data protection guidelines;

Work with the project lead to appropriately code and analyze all data;

Develop insights from the data collection and analysis;

Complete a final report documenting the data collection and analysis method as well as a description of key findings;

Identify potential sources of funding to support subsequent Conservatory- based activities arising from this research.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Undergraduate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Previous experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research and writing final reports

Understanding of appropriate ethical and data protection guidelines and practices

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Strong research, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to reliably and responsibly manage a project with an attention to detail.

Salary: $30 per hour
