Research Assistant, School of Clinical Therapies

0.3 FTE, 8 Months, Fixed-Term, Part-time Post

Position Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant, School of Clinical Therapies. Stroke, the primary cause of adult acquired neurological disability, often leads to profound and life-changing consequences. Many people affected by stroke struggle to return to their previous way of life and require ongoing support for the rest of their lives. While there are health and social supports provided by the HSE, voluntary organisations, and charities, people living with stroke and their families are often unaware of these services and how to access them. This research is a collaboration between UCC and Cork Stroke Support and aims to address this gap by developing a national protocol for the collection, collation, and dissemination of stroke-related services available both regionally in Munster and nationally. By actively involving people who have experienced stroke and their families, this research seeks to uncover the barriers and facilitators to accessing these vital services. The findings will be made freely available to people living with stroke, their families and the organisations who support them. The research methodology will include a combination of online survey, qualitative interviews, focus groups, workshops, and geographical mapping of stroke services in Munster and nationally.
