Research Assistant/Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate to join the research group of Dr. Milka Sarris (https: // www. pdn.cam.ac.uk/directory/milka-sarris) in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, from 15 Nov 2023 or by negotiation.

The Sarris lab studies the dynamics of leukocyte migration and signalling during immune responses in zebrafish. Current interests in the lab include the study of how neutrophils aggregate at sites of damage or infection in vivo and how their accumulation in these tissues is resolved.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to be involved in a new strand of research resulting from an ERC/UKRI award competition, which aims to understand the long-term fates and migration trajectories of innate immune cells after inflammatory challenge. The research will involve molecular and cell biology techniques, animal work and live microscopy. The successful candidate will also be expected to take on laboratory management tasks, such as the maintenance of lab resources (including equipment and animal stocks), updating of health and safety protocols and the training and induction of new lab members.

Candidates should have a BSc and a MSc (for research assistant appointment) or PhD (for research associate appointment) in an area of molecular and cell biology or genetics and skills required include:

  • Cell and molecular biology experience, including cell culture and molecular biology techniques is essential
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • The ability to demonstrate excellence in communication, enthusiasm, and a proven track record of good collaboration
  • Previous experience with animal experimentation or microscopy or image analysis will be advantageous
  • Fixed term: The funds for this post are available for three years, in the first instance.

    Salary Range: Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966, Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263.
