As the Rapid Prototype Technician II, one conducts hands-on CNC machining and fabrication from detailed drawings, sketches, schedules, and SolidWorks models. One will work closely with engineers, other prototype technicians, vendors and suppliers in the fabrication of tooling and components.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist Engineers in the preliminary designs, and final detailed designs for parts and components
  • Assist Engineers in design airframe tooling from component/subsystem specifications
  • Use established engineering drawing configuration control systems
  • Support design reviews, development of manufacturing procedures for designed tooling and components and fabrication of tooling and components
  • Create Purchase Request and track incoming tools and materials
  • Work required various materials and close tolerances
  • Help maintain clean and keep shops and labs safe
  • Meet with vendors and suppliers when needed or requested
  • Take and successfully pass annual Hazmat and safety shops training courses
  • Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature
  • Follows established procedures on routine work, requiring instructions primarily on new assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 1+ years' relevant experience is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • CNC vertical machine operating experience required
  • 1+ years of current experience using CAM software
  • Conventional machining experience is required
  • Experience with Manual Mills and Lathes are both required
  • Must have knowledge of equipment and tools, techniques, set-ups and practices
  • Ability to identify design issues and offer solutions to improve functionality and manufacturability of product
  • Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot errors with mechanical equipment
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Vocational school and/or technical training in related discipline highly preferred
  • Applies acquired job skills, company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks
  • 5th axis machining knowledge is recommended
  • UAV experience is a plus; Welding experience Tig or Mig is a plus
  • Some Composite experience to support metal fabrication is a plus
  • Some experience with SolidWorks CAD software is a plus
  • Ability to work independently under a deadline on several projects simultaneously with minimal input
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties
  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products
  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company

  • Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment and be comfortable working with industrial machinery (Constant)
  • Ability to work with Solvents and Chemicals (Frequent)
  • Ability to lift and carry objects of varying shapes and sizes up to 25 pounds (Frequent)
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)
  • The salary range for this role is:

    $21 - $32
