Unique opportunity to work on the General Motors flagship and growing Battery Electric Truck (Hummer EV, Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV) and Autonomous Vehicle (Cruise Origin) portfolio at the newly renovated Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center in Detroit, Michigan. Electrified and Autonomous mobility are rapidly developing areas of automotive engineering, deploying an extremely high number of advanced systems and features to the vehicle. The Quality Engineer position is responsible to define, contain, root cause, and eliminate priority safety, quality, and throughput issues identified by vehicle customers or production teams within the assembly plant.
Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
Scope of Responsibilities
Safety
Follow all site and corporate Safety Guidelines
Urgently resolve identified Safety and Ergonomic Issues
People
Develop Quality related and professional skill set through attainment of Red X Technical Problem Solving and Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) certification, Built In Quality (BIQ) & Global Manufacturing System (GMS) compliance, Quality skills assessment completion, and other professional certifications
Lead and coach Red X Technical Problem Solving methodologies for Manufacturing Teams
Develop and implement Workplace of Choice initiatives
Maintain Workplace Organization standards
Quality
Act as primary technical link between Product Engineering, Suppliers, and Manufacturing organizations to ensure vehicle Safety, Quality, and Reliability
Perform advanced Technical Problem Solving for Voice of the Customer (VOC) Quality issues from vehicle customers originating from Warranty, JD Power, Consumer Reports, and other feedback sources
Provide urgent response to all responsible commodity Manufacturing issues
Coordinate containment, repair, rework, and permanent corrective action activities for identified supplier and engineering quality concerns
Communicate Emerging Issue Summaries for responsible vehicle commodities
Support quality issue part and vehicle reviews and develop inspection methods and standards
Facilitate Supplier visits to Manufacturing Facility
Ensure supplier responsible issues are documented in Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS) system, and coordinate with Manufacturing, Supplier, and GM Supplier Quality teams for permanent issue resolution
Initiate and resolve Supplier Controlled Shipping activities for repeating and priority issues
Validate Reject part disposition from Manufacturing Teams
Request temporary engineering work orders from Product Engineering as required to support Assembly Plant
Document issues in Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) and drive resolution though the Current Product Improvement Team (CPIT) Process
Participate in assembly plant internal and third-party quality process audits as needed
Participate in the assembly plant Change Management process
Support the Production Trial Run (PTR) process, documenting product concerns and providing Pass/Fail feedback
Communicate Lessons Learned to Product Engineering and Validation Teams
Support Launch activities for all future programs beginning at the first Manufacturing Build
Ensure Exterior Color Harmony Reviews are conducted per standard Design Quality processes
Responsiveness
Support timely containment and resolution of supplier and engineering related plant floor Ergonomics and Manufacturing Quality issues
Attendance of Manufacturing Quality issue review meetings
Support manufacturing First Time Quality (FTQ) improvement initiatives
Assigned Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) Issues to be completed through Root Cause and Irreversible Corrective Action per timing targets
Attend Quality Engineering Team standard meetings
Cost
Champion assigned Warranty cost reduction initiatives
Identify, investigate, and implement Manufacturing cost savings opportunities
Document and execute Cost Recovery charges for financial impact associated with Supplier Quality issues
Qualifications
Required:
Four-year degree in Engineering or other related technical discipline or equivalent experience
Highly developed oral and written communications skills
High level of analytical and decision-making abilities where problems are unusual and difficult
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related areas
Knowledge of Manufacturing processes
Preferred:
Graduate level degree in Engineering or other job related technical discipline
Quality Engineering experience
Supplier Quality experience
Automotive Product Design experience
Manufacturing Production Floor experience
Red X Technical Problem Solving and Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) certifications
Dimensional, GD&T, and part data analysis proficiency
