Offer Description

Background of the recruitment and description of the project Background of the recruitment and description of the project Subaru Telescope is commissioning a new facility instrument, Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS). PFS is a massive fiber-fed spectrograph covering 1.25 square degrees with ~2400 fibers. The instrument is going to be used for Subaru Strategic Program as well as for open-use programs. As the PFS data is going to be massive and complex, an efficient processing pipeline is crucial. The PFS pipeline is being developed by a joint team of Princeton University, Subaru Telescope and University of Tokyo. The pipeline is rapidly evolving, but a lot of new issues have been discovered in recent commissioning observations. The pipeline will still be in an active development phase in the first few years of PFS science operations. Subaru Telescope thus aims to accelerate the pipeline development and calls for two post-doctoral researchers. These researchers are also expected to carry out scientific research using PFS data. https: // www. nao.ac.jp/en/contents/job-vacancy/job-20231024-subaru-en.pdf
