GM Design's Fabrication Operations (DFO) Group is seeking a Project Manager who will be responsible for working with DFO Stakeholders, Design Studio's and external GM Customers to bring various property build types to completion. The Project Managers are responsible for moving a project from initial request to completion while focused on exceeding customer expectations. These projects demonstrate a wide range of complexity, ranging from full concept vehicle development to individual parts for requests. This postion requires an employee to be onsite fulltime.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit a safety attitude while identifying, taking ownership and resolving safety concerns, as well as supporting safety initiatives at Design Center and GM Partners
  • Responsible for project definition and monitoring project progress with milestones and deadlines
  • Collaborate with customers to define the project's scope, along with determining available resources from DFO to meet the customer's request
  • Establish project time estimates for customers relative to DCF capacity forecasts
  • Responsible for detailed project management such as sequencing the activities, estimate the duration of activities, develop a detailed schedule, maintain a schedule to completion, solve issues, manage the project scope, ensure satisfaction, and project reconciliation
  • Develop clear, straightforward plans that simulate the project team to reach their full potential
  • Effectively communicate to the project team of any changes in the client's needs
  • Forecast delays that may occur with the project, have a plan for change or project expansion throughout the project
  • Lead project build meetings with Customers and Stakeholders to communicate the project status
  • Develop comprehensive shortage lists with Stakeholders, track and maintain parts to ensure the proper sequence of activities.
  • Ensuring Customer Satisfaction by minimizing uncertainty, avoiding negative surprises, and involving customers and collaborators as much as responsibly possible.
  • Benchmark build processes to integrate lessons learned for continuous improvements

    Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in design and/or engineering preferably in the construction of prototype builds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (MS Projects, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc..)
  • Benchmarking and selection input of external suppliers to support DCF property builds
  • Skilled at dealing with and navigating ambiguity
  • Ability to evaluate high complex issues and recommend integrative solutions
  • Expertise in resource and workload planning, tracking, and reconciliation
  • Exceptional organization and administrative skills
  • Ability to influence others on the project team with concepts, approaches, and practices
  • Capable of presenting and collaborating cross functionally with all Design Studios, Engineering and DFO simultaneously
  • Experience in managing concurrent project plans, coordinating amongst various team members, and scheduling projects to forecast feasibility
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Combination of applied Fabrication Experience and Project Management backgrounds
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities
  • Experience of working with UAW or Hourly trades
  • 5 Years of experience in the design, engineering, project or program management experience, and the construction of prototype builds
