Process Engineer - Transmission Test


Toledo Propulsion Systems is a Global Propulsion System site that manufactures Rear Wheel Drive and Front Wheel Drive transmissions for GM's Half-Ton Truck, Mid-Size Truck and SUV product lines. The plant is also undergoing a launch for a new Electric Drive Unit that will drive our electric future. The engineer selected for this role will be a member of the team responsible for equipment related to the assembly and Test of the Allison 10 Speed Diesel Transmission that goes into GM's Heavy Duty Pickup Trucks.

The selected individual will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and validation of manufacturing assembly test processes and equipment for new transmission programs. Test systems include leak test, Valve body air test, Valve Body Wet Calibration and Transmission Final Test. This role includes FTA improvement, BOE/BOP best practices implementation. Validate new test processes as driven by product requirements. Implement common methods and systems. Continuously improve safety, quality, responsiveness, and cost. Estimate new engineering changes / project investment. Solve and assist with operational problems, as required. Support and interact with manufacturing operations personnel. Capture improvements to the Bill of Equipment, Bill of Process, and specifications related to manufacturing test area (Engine and Transmission). Establish communication channel with Product Engineer to solve rejects on GPS assembly plants related with Test Equipment. Utilize a considerable amount of creativity and initiative, as well as a high level of independent judgment.


  • Manufacturing knowledge / experience

  • Deep technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines

  • Demonstrates excellent analytical ability, communication, and interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members, suppliers, and stakeholders to resolve issues

  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results

  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and help others

  • Understanding of mathematical statistics & Statistical Process Control

  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others

  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient with computer- based office and engineering software, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

  • Basic Preferred:

  • Program Execution experience

  • Thorough knowledge of test equipment and manufacturing processes

  • Understanding and experience with data acquisition hardware

  • Leak Test experience

  • Red X Experience

  • Test application and programming software experience (Bauer PCS, Discom and other)

  • Working knowledge of GD&T as applied to product prints.

  • Prior experience or knowledge in plant design and/or turnkey cell-assembly lines

  • Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree with major in engineering or equivalent training / experience

  • Typical: 5 years experience
