Role Overview
The Principal Software Architect is a key member of an innovation-focused, forward-looking team envisioning, designing, and developing software architectures for Embedded Electronics in Fisker's advanced next generation vehicles. This candidate will be part of a core team of EE software architects driving continuous innovation and improvement in software designs for our next generation vehicles. The candidate will report to the Sr. Manager, Software Architecture, collaborating with a team of peers to drive holistic design innovation across all in-vehicle software systems.
The successful candidate in this role will be an expert in one or more advanced automotive software technologies and will demonstrate a keen interest and deep technical skills in designing advanced system software architectures in the automotive space. They will demonstrate a Can-Do attitude and creativity to build unique systems.
Technology areas of interest include Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Software-defined Vehicles, Classic & Adaptive AUTOSAR, RTOS, Embedded Linux, QNX, Android Automotive, Hypervisors, CANFD/CAN/LIN/Ethernet network communication software, Infotainment/Cockpit, ADAS, Wireless technologies, Cybersecurity, Network Management, Power Management, Thermal Management, etc.
Responsibilities
Work with your manager and team to understand the vision, product goals, and anticipated features for Fisker's next generation vehicles.
Work with your manager and team to understand the current vehicle architecture, features, challenges, and design opportunities to improve upon the architecture.
Leverage your area(s) of technical expertise to contribute to the team's collective knowledge and drive one or more EE software design initiatives.
Collaborate closely and work in tandem with the EE Architecture team to understand their next generation design ideas deeply.
Engage in a design thinking approach with internal and external stakeholders to create software architectures for the new EE systems designed by the EE Architecture team.
Validate these new software designs through experimentation and stakeholder reviews.
Define these new software designs clearly and brainstorm with broader organizational stakeholders.
Collaborate with the Requirements Management team to drive the creation and recording of software requirements.
Create detailed software design documents for the software component(s) you are responsible for.
Own the process of collecting organizational feedback on the designs and continuously improving them accordingly.
Communicate the ideas to internal stakeholders and senior leadership for buy-in.
Incubate and facilitate transition of the ideas to the production team leadership.
Guide and support the execution-focused teams through the process of taking the designs through software development, validation, and production phases.
Provide technical guidance and support to the production teams throughout all phases of development, product launch, and post launch support.
Keep up to date with the latest advancements in your core areas of technical expertise.
Continue to drive the innovation cycle with guidance from your manager.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
Master's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or electronics & communications engineering.
5-9 years of hands-on software architecture, design, and development experience in a fast-paced technology-focused organization in the automotive space.
Proven expertise in one or more technical areas such as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Software-defined Vehicles, Classic & Adaptive AUTOSAR, RTOS, Embedded Linux, QNX, Android Automotive, Hypervisors, CANFD/CAN/LIN/Ethernet network communication software, Infotainment/Cockpit, ADAS, Wireless technologies, Cybersecurity, Network Management, Power Management, Thermal Management, etc.
Proven new vehicle launch experience from design to production.
Strong expertise in architecture design software such as PREEVision, EA, or similar.
Good understanding of vehicle EE architectures and integration processes.
Good knowledge of automotive safety standards, requirements, and design.
Good knowledge of automotive cybersecurity standards, requirements, and design.
Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong familiarity with emerging connected, software-defined vehicle technologies.
Must be comfortable with operating in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Additional Requirements
Expected Salary Range: $112,980 – $314,730.00
Additional compensation: Salary is one part of total compensation which includes bonuses, equity awards as applicable, and benefits. An employee is eligible to participate in Fisker's equity program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
Benefits: Fisker provides comprehensive medical, prescription, dental, vision, and disability insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Fisker covers most of the premiums for employees.
The salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, education/training, certifications, key skills, experience, internal peer equity as well as business considerations. Fisker reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position within the salary range listed, considering the wide variety of factors listed above.
