The Division of Landscape Architecture at the University of Hong Kong is currently accepting applications for the position of Principal Professional Practitioner/ Senior Professional Practitioner (holding the title of Professor of Practice/Associate Professor of Practice) (Ref. 523820) in the field of Heritage Conservation, to commence as soon as possible on a non-tenure track, fractional appointment for a two-year or three-year fixed- term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
The Division is particularly interested in candidates who are established or emerging leaders with applied expertise in built heritage conservation, cultural landscape management, and/or area conservation planning. Applicants should hold a terminal degree in a subject area relevant to architecture, landscape architecture, or planning. They should demonstrate a history of significant professional practice within the region, as well as recognition of their expertise by an international audience. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant experience in teaching and curriculum development at the university level.
The successful candidate will contribute to and sustain our leadership in the areas of architectural, urban, and landscape conservation in the Asia-Pacific region. With practical experience, the candidate will be expected to engage in conceptualising and developing cross-disciplinary initiatives between the Faculty and international stakeholder institutions. We seek individuals who are prepared to address the urgent social and environmental issues faced by our region, including climate change, rapid urbanisation, the evolving role of data, and shifting forms of communication. The appointee will be responsible for teaching seminars, electives, or studio courses within the Division's Master of Science in Conservation program, as well as contributing to the overall strategic planning and curriculum development of the unit. As a fractional appointment, it is understood that the candidate will maintain an active role in critical and impactful professional practice to a degree negotiated through the appointment process.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
