Crytek is looking for a creatively minded and independent Principal Environment Artist to join the Hunt: Showdown team.

  • Work with lead artist and other artists to ensure consistency between vision and implementation of environment assets;
  • Understand and follow style guides to guarantee the consistency of the game;
  • Create believable and photorealistic environments within CRYENGINE;
  • Create game-ready assets given the technical limitations;
  • Supervise and mentor other artists on the team;
  • Provide and accept direction;
  • Explore new technologies on the given platforms to achieve best possible results;
  • Working together with inter-disciplinary teams of all sorts;
  • Obtain deep game and engine knowledge;
  • Work together with our tech-art department to improve workflow;
  • Coordinate with other studio groups including level design and production to achieve project objectives;
  • Complete all tasks in a timely manner and to a consistent high quality standard;
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and grow professionally;
  • Become highly significant for the success of Crytek and its products;
  • Will be the main go-to person for their field of work and represent the art team as a specialist;
  • Have an excellent eye for detail in level dressing and scene composition;
  • Can break down problems in an analytical manner and is able to present information concisely;
  • Regular knowledge sharing.
  • Requirements

  • 9+ years experience in game development;
  • Exceptional understanding of current game art processes, limitations and dependencies; broad level of interdisciplinary knowledge;
  • Expert level ability to create believable, realistic environments in a real-time engine;
  • Expert knowledge of 3ds Max or Blender, Photoshop, Substance Designer / Painter and Zbrush;
  • Expert knowledge of common real-time game engines
  • Be a specialist in their field, e.g. architecture or organics;
  • Great interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • The ability to manage and supervise mid-level and junior artists and willingness to carry out mentorship tasks;
  • Ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback;
  • Is able to develop and promote the most efficient work methods in the team;
  • Good English communication and writing skills;
  • Positive, problem-solving and team-oriented attitude;
  • Be proactive and self-motivated, work without direct supervision;
  • Takes on new challenges head-on and seeks them out;
  • Is able to work completely autonomously if needed;
  • Highly reliable task prioritization and estimations.
  • A portfolio or reel that demonstrates the following:

  • Heavy focus on environment art
  • Flawless high and low poly modeling
  • Photorealistic texturing, following PBR rules
  • Strong technical skills (modeling / baking / UVs / modularity / shaders)
  • Exceptional artistic skills (shapes / colors / proportions / lighting)
  • Expert eye for detail and realism
  • Pluses

  • Experience with CRYENGINE;
  • Experience with procedural content creation;
  • Experience with photogrammetry;
  • Outsourcing experience;
  • Passion for first-person shooter game.
