ProbablyMonsters is looking for a versatile and experienced Principal Animator. You will join a team focusing on action game play, world building, level design, AI, and character design during the early phases of game development.

We are seeking a Principal Animator who is experienced in developing gameplay and/or heroes for action games. As a qualified candidate for this role, you first and foremost consider yourself a game developer. You are a skilled and approachable communicator and an artist who stays current with the techniques of your craft and you strive for excellence and growth.   • You are an independent, motivated, and self-aware artist who is excited to breathe life into a diverse cast of world-class characters.
  • Your work demonstrates your ability to create high quality and entertaining character animation and a mastery of motion and visual design principles.
  • You have an expert understanding of gameplay animation systems and workflows, and the ways that animation impacts a game.
  • You are effective at presenting your positions and ideas to positively influence the project.
  • You are proactive about evangelizing for your team to improve tools and workflows.

  • Design and create compelling, stylized character animation that evokes the personality of a cast of unique characters and develop our stylistic norms.
  • Co-develop our animation systems in partnership with our Tech team.
  • Collaborate with Designers to create evocative animation that articulates gameplay mechanics.
  • Collaborate to establish workflows and best practices for the animation discipline.
  • Meet with the Animation Lead and Art Director to help establish and define the visual and experiential pillars of the game.
  • Participate in our teamwide playtests to evaluate how your assets are playing and to give and receive notes on the experience.

  • A reel that displays a mastery of weight, posing, body mechanics and timing in hand-keyed animation
  • An expert proficiency in modern animation workflows & DCC programs (such as Maya, MotionBuilder, etc.)
  • Shipped at least 2 games as a gameplay animator
  • At least 8+ years of character animation experience

  • This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt (salaried) position.
  • The full salary range for this position is $169,000 - $262,000 per year. The upper third of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. When an offer is made, many factors are considered, such as your unique experience and skills, where you live, where the work will be performed, what similar jobs pay, internal equity, and what you're looking for.
  • In addition to base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for additional incentives, such as a sign-on bonus and short- and long-term incentives. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
