Post-doc specialist in digital humanities

The Center for Early Medieval Studies, Department of Art History, and the Department of Archaeology and Museology, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, announce a selection procedure for the position of a post-doctoral specialist in digital humanities with focus on political or historical sciences. The position is open for a four-and-a-half-year OP JAK project “ Ready for Future: Understanding the Long-Term Resilience of Human Cultures (RES- HUM)”, reg. no. CZ.02.01.01/00/22008/0004593, implemented at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.

The position is offered on a full-time basis of 1,0 FTE (i.e. 40 hours per week). The successful applicant will take up the position from 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible after that date.

Main duties:

  • to carry out research focused on theoretical conception and application of the tools stemming from digital humanities in interdisciplinary discourse and research practice;to conceive and implement an interdisciplinary project database containing heterogenous data (visual, textual, material, biological, technical, etc.)
  • to conceive (in collaboration with a database specialist) a multi-media platform adequate for the dissemination of results of interdisciplinary research to broader audiences
  • to present and publish research results in internationally recognized scholarly journals and on other research platforms (articles, presentations at conferences, lectures for public, etc.)
  • to contribute to the research activities of the Center for Early Medieval Studies and the Department of Archaeology and Museology

    Skills/Qualifications

    Requirements for applicants:

  • PhD title obtained within 7 years prior to January 2024
  • significant international experience (at least 2 years of PhD studies or 2 years of research work experience with at least 0,5 FTE abroad in the past 5 years)
  • publication activity, including at least 2 publication outputs within the past 3 years registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science or Scopus databases
  • significant experience in the field of digital humanities and political or historical sciences
  • professional focus on the role of digital humanities and political or historical sciences in interdisciplinary research
  • specialisation in history and media discourse (possibly including new media and the role of digital humanities in this discourse)
  • knowledge of existing theoretical platforms and practical experience with existing research infrastructures and tools in the field of digital humanities
  • practical experience with database creation and implementation, ideally in the area of cultural heritage
  • excellent written and spoken knowledge of English
  • ability to clearly formulate research results
  • ability to prepare an international research project (e.g. ERC Starting Grant)
  • experience with research projects (an advantage)
  • ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team
