Preferred Qualifications
Not-for-profit accounting experience in a private college setting
preferred.
Knowledge of Ellucian Banner Finance software a plus.
Knowledge of Argos reporting software a plus.
Job Specific Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in accounting or related field.
5+ years of payroll experience.
Strong organizational, analytical and account reconciliation skills.
Detail-oriented and demonstrates a “can do” positive attitude.
Ability to exercise good judgement; make decisions in a logical and
rational manner and demonstrate “common sense”.
Ability to work both independently, as well as cooperatively with others
in a team environment.
Self-starter with solid organizational skills and ability to effectively
manage multiple priorities or reprioritization of projects.
Strong communication skills-verbal and written.
Ability to quickly learn and apply computer software applications/data
management system, such as Ellucian Banner and Argos.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Excellent skills in MS Excel and Word.

Duties
Process salary and hourly payroll, ensuring accurate and timely processing
of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay
rates.
Interpret and import data from the time and attendance system into the
computerized payroll system.
Calculate vacation pay-out, overtime and adjusyments.
Process wage garnishments.
Balance and reconcile processed payroll data, including lost time,
medicare and base compensation, to control reports.
Prepare funding requests for net pay; employee federal, state and local
withholding and employer match; retirement plan deferred compensation
contributions; health savings account (HSA) contributions and
garnishments.
Prepare reports that include summaries of earnings, tax deductions, leave,
and non-taxable wages.
Calculate payroll liabilities by determining employee taxes, including
federal and state income and social security tax, and calculating
employer's payments for social security, unemployment and worker's
compensation
Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee payroll inqueries.
Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
Attend webinars and conferences to keep current on trends and best
practices for managing payroll.
Routinely update and maintain desk procedures for all job duties.
Assist the University in executing policies and compliance procedures.
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Participation and assistance is expected at major campus special events,
such as commencement and convocation ceremonies.
Use technical knowledge of reporting software/data management system, to
create, modify, and run various payroll reports used to analyze and
reconcile general ledger accounts and sub ledgers. Currently using Argos
and Ellucian Banner.
Provide accurate and effective document preparation and records management
relative to the payroll function in accordance with records retention
policies and procedures.
Perform any other related duties and assignments as required.
