Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The purpose of Student Health Services is to provide quality health care for students enrolled at Fayetteville State University. Student Health Services promotes and maintains conditions that are conducive for healthful living, to guide and encourage students to accept health as a positive value of life, and to stimulate an interest in students to make healthy adjustments to their environment. Activities of Student Health Services are carried out with special emphasis on the promotion of the nine dimensions of wellness and good bio-psycho-social health care. Student Health Services has the mission of serving as the students' initial contact for the assessment of health problems or concerns. Students are provided with reasonable quality health care for minor illnesses and injuries and are referred to specialists or consultants when necessary. Each health care visit is used as an opportunity for health education.

Student Health Services provides student-centered medical and wellness services which are affordable and accessible. Utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to wellness and health care. Provides and environment of inclusion, respect, and appreciation of diversity. Promotes professional excellence, responsiveness, and ethical practice. Student Health Services is committed to the support of the educational, research, and service missions of the university.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The primary purpose of the position is to deliver primary health care to students. The scope of practice includes diagnosis and treatment of a broad scope of medical illness as well as recognition and referral of psychological and major medical and surgical illness. Provides counseling with regards to health promotion and disease prevention. May supervise, teach, and evaluate students and other medical staff. Provides clinical knowledge to health- related queries from faculty and staff.

A Nurse Practitioner, or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, is responsible for handling patient appointments and performing routine examinations to ensure patient health. Their duties include speaking with their patients about healthy lifestyle choices for their age, completing diagnostic tests to help diagnose and treat patients for injuries or illnesses and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to maintain updated medical records.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee

Knowledge skills and abilities: Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate in Nursing Practice More than two years' experience in outpatient clinical environment, primary care clinic, or urgent care setting
