The Role

We are seeking a Motorsports Computational Fluid Dynamics Senior Methods Developer to join a multi-disciplined team of engineers and technicians who are responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining a suite of software tools used to run and analyze full car and subsystem simulations of varying complexity. You will work with GM Motorsports colleagues and GM race teams to ensure the teams can develop the highest performing vehicles possible. Working within the motorsports aerodynamics team, you will provide toolchain and methodology support and development for the various CFD programs that GM Motorsports manages.

What You'll Do:

  • Support and develop the tools used to run and analyze various models capable of detailed aerodynamic simulation

  • Utilize the agile framework to manage, track and implement changes made to the CFD tool chain

  • Interface with other software engineering groups to ensure the CFD toolchain is well integrated with other Motorsports tools

  • Remain apprised of the latest developments in the field of CFD to improve the methods utilized for aerodynamic simulation of the racecar and its working components

  • Use your knowledge of the CFD process to develop analyst focused workflow and tools

  • Interface and collaborate with GM Race Teams, GM Virtual Design and Development Group, GM IT and GM Software groups in the development of tools to be used over a wide range of programs

    Additional Description

    Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering, Software Development, or a related subject with coursework in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics.

  • PhD with relevant research experience or 5+ years industry experience as a CFD Engineer, Aerodynamicist or Software Development Engineer

  • Proficiency in Java and Python scripting languages

  • Knowledge of Microsoft PowerBi Desktop and Services, and database development

  • Experience with the Agile (or similar) framework in a software development capacity

  • Substantial experience with CFD software (Star CCM+ preferred) and visualization related software and methods

  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment, with strong work ethic and integrity

  • Self-motivation along with the ability to effectively work with others and support team goals

  • What Will Give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience using CFD to drive and automate the aerodynamic development of an automobile

  • Proficiency in Linux, Windows, and Microsoft Azure environments

  • Proficiency with Git, employing effective version control strategies to maintain code integrity.

  • Knowledgeable in DevOps practices, focusing on implementation and maintenance of automated release pipelines

  • Skilled in crafting, executing, and automating unit tests, to elevate code quality and ensure software reliability and robustness.

  • Understanding of various aerodynamic turbulence models as they relate to specific CFD test methods and results

  • Expertise of CAD software automation (Siemens NX and ANSA preferred)

  • Knowledge of AI/ML methods as they pertain to aerodynamics

  • Experience with the architecture and performance of various automotive race vehicles
