Mechanical Engineer – Stamping Operations

On - Site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

The Role

The Mechanical Engineer – Stamping Operations will be responsible for the Mechanical Engineering support of the Stamping Operations. Specific responsibilities will center around improvements, repairs, and maintenance of our presses and associated automation equipment. Understanding of complex engineering theory and principles of mechanical and electrical mechanisms is required. Familiarity with production processes of stamping facilities is also preferred as well as equipment installations and rearrangements.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Support/ Lead large press repairs

  • Develop blank to pallet locations along with packaging specifications for all plant diesets

  • SME for GMS Continuous Improvement

  • Support ACAP for plant assets

  • Lead process automation changes and equipment improvements

  • Improve Press and equipment uptime

  • Responsible for pneumatic and hydraulic prints and equipment

  • Use AutoCAD to create/ update mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic prints

  • Support or lead Throughput Improvement Process (TIP) and Continuous Improvement Process activities

  • Develop SOR and implement mechanical projects for the plant

  • Interface with HQ press group on issues and new projects

  • Perform feasibility analysis of various customer recommendations

  • Maintain and create accurate documentation on existing and new equipment

  • Develop standardized work for press repairs and some maintenance work

  • Perform trouble shooting, root cause analysis and day to day engineering tasks for stamping plant

  • Communicates and coordinates information to and from internal and external customers

  • Setup Spare parts and order material as needed

  • Develops safety pre task plans

  • Provides technical assistance to production and maintenance departments

  • Job may include: some off shift work and weekend assignments

  • Understand and participate in the implementation of GMS

  • Understand and work with the UAW

    Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Stamping experience

  • 2+ years of Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering experience

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge of press equipment and systems

  • Ability to read, understand and troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic prints and equipment

  • Familiarity with sheet metal transferring equipment

  • Understanding of complex engineering theory and principles of mechanical and electrical mechanisms

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Team player, consensus builder, and problem solver

  • Ability to work with UAW skilled trades

  • Experience with AutoCAD & Teamcenter

  • Ability to work OT or off-shift as neededd

  • What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 5 years of experience as a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineer

  • B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Work experience in Stamping operations

  • Experience with Transfer, and Tandem Presses.

  • Work experience supporting and leading facility engineering/Facility Upgrades/Equipment Installations

  • Work experience with PFMEA's

  • Experience working in a UAW environment

  • Proficient in SAP

  • Experience with Maximo, ACAP, MS office

  • Knowledge of G-comply
