Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The home campus for this position is Lock Haven.
Employee shift will be 2PM – 10PM, Monday through Friday, mid-August through mid-May. Shift will be 6AM – 2PM, Monday through Friday from mid-May through mid-August and when classes are not in session.
The Maintenance Repairman 2 position is work at the journeyman skill level in at least two of the following building trades that includes carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmithing, painting and plumbing. An employee in this class performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of buildings and auxiliary systems and equipment.
This position reports directly to a Building Maintenance Foreman and is considered an essential position where the employee is to be present on all scheduled workdays regardless of weather conditions and/or other unforeseen circumstances.
Essential Duties
Knowledge of the means, methods, materials, procedures, tools, and equipment appropriate to the operation area to which assigned. Knowledge of current codes, rules and regulations and building trades for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to include but not limited to NEC, NFPA and IBC.
Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and floorplans.
Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude.
Care for and use standard tools, equipment and testing devices.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.
Operate an automobile or pickup truck as required.
Ability to work overtime. Ability to shovel snow.
Ability to climb a ladder or scaffolding.
Responds to emergency service calls 24/7 and makes necessary repairs or adjustments.
Employees in this classification are designated as essential employees in accordance with Commonwealth Management Directive 530.17. As such, the employee is to be present on all scheduled workdays regardless of weather conditions, emergency circumstances, or other reasons.
Specific Duties
Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment.
Install, repair, and service commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems, equipment, and peripheral devices.
Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot commercial kitchen equipment.
Install, repair, and service door and door hardware & building card access systems.
Maintain and troubleshoot fire alarm system.
Install and maintain plumbing & sprinkler systems and fixtures.
Assist with maintaining university keying system.
Assist with small renovation and carpentry projects.
Paint buildings, rooms, walls, or other surfaces as assigned.
Performs masonry work and repairs on buildings, ramps, sidewalks, and walls.
Assist with snow removal on campus.
At times may function as a lead worker over employees by assigning work, providing assistance, conducting on-the-job training, and reviewing the work for adherence to standards.
Makes estimates of time and materials necessary for specific jobs.
Sees that all equipment used is operating safely and that work area and equipment are kept clean and orderly.
Understand and follow written or verbal instructions.
Make routine decisions in the absence of on-site supervision.
Perform other related duties and tasks.
Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
A high school diploma and/or a General Equivalency Diploma. Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; OR Four years experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid PA Driver's License by date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Position may require hand dexterity to grasp and handle material and equipment for the job. Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions. Must be able to move all materials to and from job site. Ability to life a minimum of fifty pounds or less on a regular basis. Ability to shovel snow. Ability to climb a ladder.

Applicants must provide the name, phone number, and email address for three professional preferences. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Background Clearance Results of all (3) three criminal background checks must be provided to Human Resources PRIOR to the start date of employment. Following the on-campus interview, the final candidate(s) selected must successfully pass a pre-employment medical physical, adaptive skills test and complete a background investigation as a condition of employment. The successful candidate (s) must provide proof of a valid PA Driver's License as a condition of employment.
Background Clearances
In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.
Appointment is provisional provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your three background checks are returned to the Human Resource office prior to your hire date.
