The PostSociology, Social Policy & Criminology (SSPC) wish to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced candidate as Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy (Teaching and Scholarship) at 1 FTE on an open-ended contract starting in January 2024.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is able to effectively teach, motivate and mentor undergraduates and postgraduates. The main teaching duties will be on our various undergraduate and postgraduate Sociology and Social Policy programmes. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching on Sociology and Social Policy courses of all levels and potentially to a core undergraduate research methods module focused on qualitative research methods. They will also supervise dissertation students at all levels and support personal tutees.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate with our extensive existing team for their scholarship duties. We have a number of research centres within the Faculty and a wide network of organisations, academics and practitioners that we work alongside.

Description of DutiesCoordinate taught modules, providing lectures, designing and delivering seminars, providing supervision, collaborating with colleagues, maintaining the virtual learning experience site (Canvas) and undertaking module administrative duties
Design and deliver a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including the online MSc programme where required
Contribute to the enhancement of the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE sector
Engage in individual and collaborative pedagogical research and scholarly activity, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, and disseminate results through regular publication in a manner appropriate to the work
Independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, contribute to bids for external funding/income for scholarship activities
Evaluate own practice, continue to maintain professional practice and undertake continuous professional development appropriate to the role
Demonstrate a broad understanding of effective approaches to teaching and learning support as key contributions to high quality student learning
Participate in the Faculty's international engagement activities as required e.g delivering teaching, contributing to joint programmes and recruitment of students
Participate in, and develop, networks and collaborations both internally and externally to the Division/Faculty/University
Participate in the administrative processes of the Division/Faculty/University including committee membership, quality assurance procedures and recruitment and admission of students
Contribute to recruitment and the enhancement of the student experience and employability

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) is an integrated multi-disciplinary team of academic and professional support staff with research and teaching interests in sociology, social policy, criminology, education, housing studies, social work and dementia.
