Position Summary Information

General Information

James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a highly motivated and dedicated individual to serve as part of IT-Information Systems Team supporting the university's enterprise systems. The successful candidate will be provided training and work on a wide-variety of projects for our Human Resources, Financials, and Student Administration systems. This position has the option of in-person, fully remote, or a hybrid of both.

Opportunities will exist for growth and training as JMU embarks on a very large initiative called Reengineering Madison. The project includes: use of iPaaS tools, move of applications to the Cloud, new Customer Relationship Management system, and replacement systems for Identity Management, Human Resources, Financials, and Student Information Systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under guidence from a mentor, this position will be responsible for full software development lifecycle efforts (analysis, design, development/integration, implementation and support) for complex projects related to University Information Systems. This position is telework eligible.

Qualifications

Required

  • Limited experience with complex relational database designs.
  • Familiarity with query languages such as SQL.
  • Experience with software development in medium to large application environments.
  • Ability to work with a senior developer and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable documenting business processes, project requirements, and design specs.
  • Modest technical development skills background.
  • Preferred

  • Limited programming experience in Human Resources, Financial, or Student Administration systems or other large ERP systems.
  • Limited experience in an education organization.
  • Limited experience developing a test plan.
  • Limited PeopleSoft experience. Training in PeopleSoft proprietary development tools will be provided if needed.

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on- campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
