Career Services Specialist : coach and liaison, who functions primarily to assist students in linking academic, personal and professional goals to the workforce, specifically related to the STEM and Industrial Technologies Pathways. The Career Services Specialist will act as a liaison to key employment partners, services and resources. This position assists students with job placement services and job search resources and strategies, providing guidance to students individually or in group settings regarding career decisions, degree plans, and university transfer opportunities.

The salary range for this position is $47,292.36 to $70,938.54 per year.

Responsibilities
  • 40% Initiates, develops and manages business partnerships with employers to establish career opportunity leads, experiential learning opportunities (internships, networking opportunities, and cooperative education) related to the STEM and Industrial Technologies Pathways for current students, recent graduates, and alumni. Actively and routinely seeks employer feedback and researches local industry trends; builds and maintains strong relationships. Researches and maintains current information regarding labor market trends and the occupational outlook for a wide range of careers.
  • 20% Researches employers within the assigned Career Community to create a knowledge base for advising students in the STEM and Industrial Technologies Pathways. Assists the Career and Pathway Coach with providing proactive student career advising that links career goals, interests and abilities with appropriate program of study, course selection/course sequencing and related support services for the programs offered by the college and at transfer institutions. Administers various tools for assessment of interests, values, needs, aptitudes and skills and uses the results to assist students in Pathway selection.
  • 20% Assists the Career and Pathway Coach with career readiness workshops (e.g. resume writing, mock interviews, Career Pathway events (community seminars, Pathway of the Month presentations, and other on-site presentations requested), and collaboration efforts with the College's Marketing Team (creation and modification of materials, maintaining and promoting career planning services on the College's website and other mediums) for the STEM and Industrial Technologies Pathways.
  • 10% Stays current on job skills required and requested by local employers that are relevant in the current job market.
  • 5% Maintains student information files in accordance with all school and company policies and procedures, all applicable federal, state regulations and all accrediting agencies standards and requirements. Assist the Career and Pathway Coach in maintaining program records and statistical information as it relates to student employment and program accountabilities. Collect data on all initiatives to assess outcomes, measure success, and hone future initiatives
  • 5% Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Experience

    Two years years of similar or related experience.

    Preferred: Four years of experience in a career center or student development/affairs setting which involved academic and career counseling, and demonstrated knowledge of career planning.

    Education

    A Master's degree or a specialized certification program taking one year or more of coursework beyond a Bachelor's degree.

    Interpersonal Skills

    A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

    Other Skills

    Ability to use a computer and learn new software or applications to complete daily work; Ability to establish rapport and develop relationships; Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make public presentations; Ability to work independently to complete projects and meet objectives.

    Physical Requirements

    The work is typically sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to do the work.

    Work Environment

    Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical office.
