The college acquired Herefordshire and Worcestershire College of Nursing and Midwifery in 1995. In 1997, the degree-awarding powers of the institution were affirmed by the Privy Council and its name was changed to University College Worcester. The institution received the status of a university in 2005 and was given its current name. In 2010, the university was given the power of awarding research degrees by the HM Privy Council.
