Offer Description

The CESBIO (Center for the Study of the BIOsphere from Space) is a Joint Research Unit (UMR-5126) bringing together the University of Toulouse 3, CNRS, IRD, and CNES. It is also a Unit Under Contract with INRAE since 2018. The CESBIO aims to contribute to advancing knowledge on the functioning of continental surfaces and their interactions with climate and humanity, relying extensively on satellite data. The laboratory also contributes to the development and promotion of space capabilities by participating in the definition, implementation, and scientific exploitation of space missions. Leveraging satellite observations, CESBIO develops models that are not only explanatory but also capable of providing scenarios for the evolution of these surfaces and their properties under the pressures they face. At fine scales from the plot to the region, the specific characteristics of satellite observations are used for scientific purposes and for the assessment and management of renewable soil resources (e.g., organic matter), vegetation, and water. Clearly identified scientific objectives motivate and guide the design and development of space missions by CESBIO and monitoring tools. The laboratory is structured into two teams and three thematic axes, including the Agroecosystem Axis, which actively works on spatial analysis of carbon balances in large-scale crops and their determinants, as well as the development of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) tools for carbon stocks in agroecosystems (SAFYE-CO2 model, AgriCarbon-EO processing chain).

Missions :

  • Develop functionalities in Python within the Agricarbon-EO processing chain and the agronomic model SAFYE-CO2.
  • Collaborate with users of the ESA MyEasyBiomass project on the implementation of the model.
  • Communicate the results of the simulations.
  • Analyze output simulation data (generation of maps, geomatics analysis, statistics, etc.).
  • Contribute to the validation of SAFYE-CO2 on crops and cover crops.
  • Contribute to the written of technical documents linked to the above activities.
