THE ROLE
The role of Aboriginal Student Engagement Coordinator engages Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to ensure a successful student experience throughout their university journey. This exciting role contributes to a community that is guided by Aboriginal values and experiences to both create a positive learning environment that empowers students to thrive academically, culturally, socially, and emotionally through individual, community and collaborative programs and activities.
Reporting to the Indigenous Pathways Coordinator you will be working with an enthusiastic team to provide a culturally affirming, intellectually engaging and holistic approach to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students' university journey. You will contribute to student retention and success, providing opportunities that contribute to our students successful academic progress as well as graduate destinations of postgraduate studies or employment.
This role involves:
About You You will deliver strong communication skills with an adapting communication style that is culturally understanding and sensitivity to engage with students and communities. You will have the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, and a strong connectedness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values and experiences.
The successful candidate will have experience in working in student support services within an educational environment or similar field.
About Us Walanga Muru, located within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) portfolio, is a culturally empowering environment that leads the development and implementation of the University's Indigenous engagement and advancement strategies. Our objective is to create a distinct brand that will attract and retain Indigenous students and staff. Our approach is to consult with Indigenous communities to make informed decisions when developing programs and initiatives that will increase enrolments, completions, and employment opportunities. We provide leadership and guidance on matters relating to Indigenous education and employment within the University.
