Are you an inspirational and visionary academic, with an interdisciplinary mind-set?

We are looking for a Head of School of Engineering who will be able to lead us in shaping the next stage of our exciting future. We're interested in exceptional people with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.

Your leadership skills and strategic vision will be complemented by your strong track record in delivering projects, including growing the engineering team, building research capacity and external links, and delivering a superb student experience through innovative teaching of accredited curricula.

You will be fully committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all students and staff, whatever their background. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to support and develop talented and motivated teams to ensure the School grows and fulfils its potential, building on the existing entrepreneurial and agile working ethos, with a focus on developing innovative programmes and new programmes in emerging interdisciplinary areas. You will also have an outward facing role, ensuring the School is at the forefront of addressing key challenges in skills provision and innovation in the local and global economy. As a member of the College Leadership Team, you will have a collegiate approach to working in an interdisciplinary and supportive environment alongside heads of other Schools and the College directorate, sharing resources and facilities for maximum benefit.

Recruiting a varied intake of students across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as delivering degree apprenticeships and educational contracts for external organisations, the School delivers an industry-focused student experience in a research-led environment. The School has excellent relationships with many local, national, and international industrial partners, exemplified by our award-winning relationship with Siemens Energy. A broad portfolio of research is managed within four strategic research clusters contributing to an extensive portfolio of externally funded projects: (1) Digital Health & Care and Biomedical Engineering; (2) Net- Zero, Energy and Environmental Sustainability; (3) Material Science and Smart Manufacturing; and (4) Intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems and Industry 4.0.

Taking on a permanent role in the School, you will serve as Head of School for 5 years, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement. It is intended that the post is suitable for someone appointable to our Teaching and Research profile. This post may attract professorial status for suitably qualified applicants.
