Job description
Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy
This full time role is available immediately on a fixed term basis until 31 January 2026.
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home. We also welcome job share applications.
Summary of the role
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to provide support for Professor James Scourse in his role as the Head of Department, primarily in relation to his research but also contributing to other activity as needed The successful candidate will contribute to the ERC SEACHANGE Project (seachange-erc.eu) and the CONVEX Blue Seascape Survey (convexseascapesurvey.com) investigating Holocene sediment cores from shallow marine contexts globally, in particular supporting the generation of age-depth models. The successful candidate will be fully integrated into both project teams. The focus of the SEACHANGE Project is investigating marine ecological baselines in the marine environment, and the CONVEX project is researching blue carbon sequestration and remobilisation from shelf sedimentary basins.
About you
The successful applicant will possess an Honours degree or equivalent qualification/experience in a subject relevant to the field of study e.g. geology, environmental sciences, marine sciences, geography. Some experience of describing and analysing sediment cores would be an advantage.
